The American Civil Liberties Union today released a new video condemning the U.S. government practice of issuing death sentences without due process as part of its targeted killing policy. In a transfer ceremony at The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens today, Archivist of the United States David S. Ferriero accepted on behalf of the U.S. Government the original Nuremberg Laws presented by Steven S. Koblik, Huntington president. Gen. George S. Patton Jr. deposited the documents at the Library for safekeeping at the end of World War II. He died in December of 1945 in an automobile crash before he could discuss their final disposition. A new AOL survey, released today, conducted by The Nielsen Company, reveals the challenges of modern day parenting in a world with social networking. According to the survey, more than half of the children surveyed (54%) do not personally know all of the friends accepted into their social network. While 76% of parents with kids on Facebook, claim to have friended their teens, 29% of teenagers are ready to un-friend their parents given the choice, and are twice as likely to want to un-friend mom versus dad. Honeywell (NYSE: HON) broke ground today on a public school, Ecole Nationale Jacob Martin Henriquez in Jacmel, Haiti. While over one million homeowners have already received assistance from the program, the national campaign encourages other struggling homeowners who may be eligible for assistance to reach out for the help they need through free resources made available by the Federal Government. The Advertising Council and the Dollar General Literacy Foundation joined today to launch a national public service advertising (PSA) campaign designed to provide high school dropouts with access to information that will get them started on the road to a GED Diploma. According to the US Census Bureau, more than 35.7 million adults ages 18-64 do not have a high school diploma. Data shows that students who drop out of high school tend to earn less, perform less well in society, and have a lower quality of life. Many of them must work multiple jobs just to support their family. Moreover, in 2005, 21% of families without a high school diploma were living below the poverty line, compared to 7.1% of those with high school diplomas. Full release.
