The words "EQUAL JUSTICE UNDER LAW" are famously chiseled above the main portico of the U.S. Supreme Court building in Washington D.C. But it appears that Justice Clarence Thomas is instead receiving special treatment under the law, says the watchdog group, www.ProtectOurElections.org. Evidence is mounting that Justice Thomas violated federal law from 1989 through the present by failing to report his wife's annual salary by checking "NONE" on the box for "Non-Investment Income" on judicial AO 10 Financial Disclosure Reports. Seven of those forms can be found at http://protectourelections.org/index.php?q=node/105. Full release

A new year often brings resolutions and hopes for a new beginning. This year for many Americans the new year seems to have also brought a renewed sense of optimism towards the President, the direction of the country and, to a lesser degree, even Congress. When asked to rate the overall job President Obama is doing, over two in five Americans (44%) give him positive ratings and just over half (56%) give him negative marks. This is better than in December when just 36% gave the President positive marks and 64% gave him negative ratings. These are some of the results of The Harris Poll of 2,566 adults surveyed online between January 17 and 24, 2011 by Harris Interactive. Please note this survey was conducted before President Obama delivered his State of the Union address. Full release

The following is being released by www.ProtectOurElections.org: Today, www.ProtectOurElections.org asked the Justice Department to bring criminal charges against Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas for making false statements on his AO 10 Financial Disclosure forms every year since 2003 by falsely swearing under criminal penalty that his wife Virginia had no non-investment income. (http://www.velvetrevolution.us/images/Clarence_Thomas_DOJ_Letter.pdf) (pdf) Justice Thomas signed these forms under oath after certifying that the information in them was true and accurate. The forms include a specific warning that false statements will subject the signer to "civil and criminal sanctions." Virginia Thomas worked at the Heritage Foundation from 2003 through 2007 and earned at least $120,000 each year according to the foundation's IRS Form 990s. Full release

Family Research Council praised bipartisan legislation introduced today by Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-IL) that would codify abortion funding restrictions across government programs. Also, Rep. Joe Pitts (R-PA) introduced legislation to remove abortion funding from the Obama health bill. Both bills are necessary given the actions of the previous Congress to fund abortion in health care, and in the District of Columbia. Family Research Council President Tony Perkins responded with the following comments: "Government funding for abortion is both morally and fiscally irresponsible, which is why more than two-thirds of Americans oppose such funding. (http://www.myprgenie.com) -- ElectionDayTeaParty.com today extends a message of congratulations to the incoming freshman of the 112th Congress, and in particular, the 29 men and women that were featured on the EDTP Top 50. "We intentionally selected close races," said Lorie Medina, a co-organizer of the project. "To think that we won 29 out of 50 is amazing. We're thrilled to have contributed to those victories. Of all the individuals, clubs or groups that had candidate watch-lists and endorsements, EDTP surpassed them all." "Volunteers across the country worked tirelessly to support and elect these new Representatives," said co-organizer Christina Botteri. "We have high hopes and expectations that they will live up to the promises they made to uphold the core principles of fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government, and free markets." Today the Midwest Business Group on Health (MBGH) released the results of a recent national employer survey gauging the reactions and concerns related to health reform after the mid-term November elections. Conducted by MBGH and co-sponsored by the National Business Coalition on Health (NBCH), Business Insurance and Workforce Management, the findings indicate that employers believe the law will increase their benefit costs and changes are needed in the law to improve quality, reduce expenses and reward health system performance. This is a follow up of an MBGH survey conducted with Business Insurance in April 2010 to gain an understanding of areas of most concern to employers on health reform to help educate and inform purchasers. In a year-end nationwide poll conducted by the nonpartisan Clarus Research Group assessing the mood of the country and the next presidential election, a whopping 85 percent of voters say they agree with the statement, "In many ways America is in decline and we need strong, competent leadership to get us back on track." Nearly half of all voters -- 48 percent -- also say it would be a good idea to elect a "nonpartisan" President who is neither a Democrat nor a Republican. "You'd expect independent voters to want an independent President. But more than two out of every five Democrats and Republicans also say electing a nonpartisan President is a good idea," said Ron Faucheux, president of Clarus Research Group. "There is clearly potential for an independent candidate to do quite well in 2012." Full release

Now that the election is over and the lame duck Congressional session is almost done, the time has come to look ahead to the next Congress and the work they will undertake. Overall, Americans have some mixed feelings about the election. Two in five (39%) say they think the outcome of the recent Congressional elections is a good thing and one-quarter (26%) say the outcome is a bad thing. But, underscoring the uncertainty, one-third of Americans (34%) are not sure if the election is a good or bad thing. These are some of the results of The Harris Poll of 2,331 adults surveyed online between December 6 and 13, 2010 by Harris Interactive. There is an obvious partisan difference as to whether the election outcome was a good or bad thing. Almost half of Democrats (48%) say it was a bad thing while seven in ten Republicans (70%) say it was a good thing. While two in five Independents (40%) say it is a good thing, one-third (35%) say they are not sure. Full release

Nationwide, the 2010 midterm election experienced unusually high participation from older and wealthier voters who strongly favored Republican candidates. However, according to an analysis released today by the national voting rights group Project Vote, strong turnout in California, especially among minorities, helped propel the Democratic Party into a highly contested U.S. Senate seat and a sweep of the top offices in the state. Two years ago, African Americans, lower-income Americans, and young Americans across the country participated in the 2008 presidential election in historic numbers. This November, however, these groups largely stayed home in most state elections, as did most Americans. Non-voters, the report shows, were the majority in 2010. Full release
