Law Enforcement Line-of-Duty Deaths Rose 20 Percent during First Half of 2009
July 13, 2009After reaching a nearly 50-year low in 2008, the number of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty jumped 20 percent during the first six months of 2009. Still, officer fatalities in the United States remain low when compared with mid-year totals in recent history, according to a new report from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) and Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.).
