Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today on legislation she co-sponsored that would reinstitute statutory pay-as-you-go (PAYGO) rules, which will restore fiscal discipline to the federal government. Last week, President Obama urged Congress to pass the legislation, which was introduced today by Majority Leader Steny Hoyer and more than 150 Democratic co-sponsors. "The legislation introduced today to make pay-as-you-go budgeting the law of the land will help return our nation to sound fiscal health. Just as every American family must leave within their means, so must the federal government." Full release

n April 13, 2009, the Restore Justice At Justice coalition, www.restorejusticeatjustice.com, urged Attorney General Eric Holder to identify all those politically prosecuted under the Bush Administration and to then vacate their convictions where appropriate, beginning with Don Siegelman and Paul Minor. However, according to coalition spokesman Brad Friedman, "after almost two months, we have heard nothing from Mr. Holder despite a tidal wave of information about the impropriety of these cases. The Holder DOJ has been quick to dismiss charges against Republicans such as Alaska politicians Ted Stevens, Pete Kott and Vic Kohring for prosecutorial misconduct while taking no corrective action in the cases of Democrats such as Siegelman, Minor and so many others whose cases seem to have been wracked with prosecutorial misconduct." Full release.
