Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today regarding wiretapping activities conducted under President Bush's Terrorist Surveillance Program, which was reported on today in the New York Times. "These are disturbing allegations that deserve and are receiving the fullest attention of the appropriate committees of Congress. Congress expects to receive reports from the Inspectors General of key agencies regarding warrantless wiretapping activities, including those conducted under President Bush's Terrorist Surveillance Program. An Iraqi-born Dutch citizen was sentenced to 25 years in prison today for conspiring to murder Americans overseas, including by planting roadside bombs targeting U.S. soldiers in Fallujah, Iraq, and by demonstrating on video how these explosives would be detonated to destroy American vehicles and their occupants. A study released today titled Assessing State Firefighter Cancer Presumption Laws And Current Firefighter Cancer Research, found there is inadequate scientific research to determine a link between working as a firefighter and an elevated risk of contracting cancer. In the report, researchers from TriData Corporation independently concluded there is a lack of substantive scientific evidence currently available to determine that firefighters face risks greater than the general population.
