Speaker Nancy Pelosi, along with Reps. Eliot Engel (D-NY) and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), reintroduced the Early Treatment for HIV Act (ETHA) this week with a bipartisan group of 44 original co-sponsors. Speaker Pelosi released the following statement: "Effective drug treatments have improved both health and quality of life for thousands of people living with HIV/AIDS. However, many uninsured, low-income HIV-positive individuals still do not have access to these life-saving medications because they generally do not meet Medicaid requirements until becoming disabled by full-blown AIDS." Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the Congressional Budget Office's analysis of President Obama's budget and projections for the federal budget deficit. "With rising unemployment and home foreclosures and a frozen credit market, it is no surprise that revenues would continue to decline and that the budget deficit President Obama inherited from the previous Administration would increase. After eight years of economic neglect, obfuscation and mismanagement, it will take time and steady leadership to get our nation's budget back in order." Full release

Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA), author of the recently enacted tuition tax credit that will help millions pay for college, will meet with Secretary of Education Arne Duncan on Monday, March 23 to advance his proposal for the National Commission on the Opportunity to Learn to explore issues of resource adequacy and equity in learning. American Civics Exchangecorp, Inc. announced today that it has launched The American Civics Exchange, the first US-based commercial market for political futures. The Exchange enables traders to hedge and speculate on political risk through derivative contracts based on the outcomes of underlying events, including increases in tax rates, enactment of "card check" legislation, increases in minimum wage rates, enactment of "cap and trade" legislation, and other legislative, regulatory, and legal outcomes. The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the International Water Association (IWA) signed an agreement today at the Fifth World Water Forum to work together to increase access to clean drinking water and sanitation throughout the Middle East and Africa by strengthening water utilities and their regional associations. This partnership focuses specifically on access to clean drinking water and sanitation for the urban poor, water safety and quality management, leadership gaps and climate change. Full release
