First Student school bus drivers and monitors in Missouri and Tennessee have overwhelmingly decided to join the Teamsters Union. The workers voted 54-21 in favor of joining the Teamsters in Grandview, Missouri and 25-2 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The workers cited similar reasons for uniting, including a need for a fair pay scale, affordable medical benefits, respect and improved safety. The bargaining units total 119 workers. Full release. U.S. legal counsel to Zack Shahin, an American citizen who was violently detained in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on March 23, 2008; tortured and held incommunicado from family and legal counsel for 16 days; and continues to remain unjustly imprisoned nearly a year after what was nothing less than a kidnapping, today asked the United States Government to urge an end to Shahin's detention. The sharp deterioration in the job market that continued in February was, as expected, grim, underscoring why it was so important that Congress enact an effective economic recovery law last month. No one should expect that law to put the economy back on track immediately. But if federal, state, and local governments implement the law wisely and expeditiously, it will significantly limit further increases in unemployment and boost the number of jobs well above what it otherwise would be over the next several years. The decision by the Italian government not to participate in the upcoming UN anti-racism conference in Geneva ('Durban Review Conference', or 'Durban II') over concerns that it will become a repeat of the failed 2001 conference in Durban, South Africa, has been welcomed by the World Jewish Congress (WJC). Ronald S. Lauder, the WJC's president, said: "Italy has given a strong signal, which should be a rallying call for other European Union countries. The leadership that Prime Minister Berlusconi and Foreign Minister Franco Frattini have demonstrated on this issue is praiseworthy. The Renault-Nissan Alliance today announced that Nissan and Pima Association of Governments (PAG), which represents the Tucson region, are forming a partnership to advance zero-emission mobility by promoting the development of an electric vehicle (EV) charging network.
