February 17, 2009Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement this afternoon after President Barack Obama signed HR 1, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which will create and save 3.5 million jobs. "Today, less than one month after taking office, President Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, answering the calls of the American people for urgent action to turn around our economy and create millions of jobs." The National Head Start Association (NHSA) issued the following statement today via NHSA Board Chairperson Ron Herndon, who also is the director of the Albina Head Start program in Portland, Oregon: "Tens of thousands of new jobs will be created -- and more than 200,000 existing jobs will be supported -- now that President Barack Obama has signed into law the economic recovery package containing $2.1 billion for Head Start." Despite President Obama's promise of increased transparency in government, the Small Business Administration (SBA) is moving ahead with its appeal of a San Francisco District Court ruling directing it to release small business contracting data to the American Small Business League (ASBL).
