Most of nine forecast models developed by political scientists predict a victory for Senator Barack Obama over Senator John McCain in the two-party contest for the popular vote in the 2008 presidential election. In an exclusive interview, a former Diebold vote machine contractor who was in charge of preparing the 2002 election between Saxby Chambliss and Max Cleland has stated that the software patches placed on the voting machines in the weeks prior to the election could have rigged the election in favor of Republican Chambliss. The contractor, Chris Hood, was ordered by the President of Diebold, Bob Urosevich, to install uncertified patches on machines in predominantly Democratic counties supposedly to fix a clock function which it did not do, according to Mr. Hood. Today Michigan Council 25 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), AFL-CIO, and two AFSCME members, Charles Williams and Catherine Phillips, filed a three count complaint in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan against Michigan Secretary of State, Terri Lynn Land, and the Director of the Michigan Bureau of Elections, Christopher M. Thomas. The lawsuit challenges the directive issued by the Bureau of Elections to Election Inspectors concerning the November 4, 2008 election.
