October 14, 2008 October 14, 2008Americans for Tax Reform today questioned the accuracy of the new tax calculator found on Senator Barack Obama's (D-Ill.) website.The calculator has several major errors/misleading statements, including: The forgotten tax hike. By its own admission, the tax calculator ignores the unprecedented imposition of Social Security payroll taxes on small business profits exceeding $250,000 (where two-thirds of small business profits exist). This is despite the fact that Obama told Charlie Gibson on October 8th that he wants to keep the Social Security tax rate "the same" for these small business owners. This would result in a top small business tax rate of 54.9 percent -- the highest level since the Carter Administration. Full release Posted by

During the past eight years, the Bush Administration has dismantled virtually every economic program to assist small businesses along with all programs to assist firms owned by woman, minorities and veterans. To date, Senator John McCain (R - AZ) has not voiced any opposition to the Bush Administration's anti-small business policies or discussed any plans to restore those programs in any of his speeches, press releases or on his website. The following is from The [Raleigh, NC] News & Observer and is being released by the Republican National Committee: The State Board of Elections is investigating suspicious voter registration forms submitted by an organization whose problems have drawn national attention. The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, known as ACORN, conducted a voter drive that registered nearly 28,000 people in North Carolina. But some of the forms it filed had information that may have been copied from phone books, local election officials said. ACORN is a community organizing group that runs issue campaigns and was active a few years ago in ballot initiatives to raise the minimum wage. It pays workers to register voters.
