The National Education Association today launched a new, multipronged communication blitz in 10 battleground states. The blitz is aimed at reaching NEA members and their families -- who live and vote in every state, every city, and every congressional district. It includes a mailer to undecided voters about Sen. McCain's wrongheaded prescription plan for what ails America's health care system and a link to a new Web site, http://www.mccainhealthcaretax.com, that enables members and their families to check the facts about McCain's plan and lobby him to change his position. As the leaders of our country's oldest, largest and most prestigious financial institutions plunged our economy into a near 1929 style depression, they paid themselves billions of dollars in bonuses. In the wake of the collapse of major investment banks and the government's proposed bailout of financial institutions, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is reporting a dramatic upsurge in the number of anti-Semitic statements being posted to Internet discussion boards devoted to finance and the economy. Hundreds of anti-Semitic posts regarding Lehman Brothers and other institutions affected by the subprime mortgage crisis have been submitted to discussion boards dealing with finance, with many more arriving by the minute. The messages rail against Jews in general, with some charging that Jews control the government and finance as part of a "Jew world order" and therefore are to blame for the economic turmoil. The Republican National Committee (RNC) today added a new friend update to its social networking Web site, http://www.BarackBook.com. The most recent friend update includes Barack Obama's notable association with Joseph Cari, who pleaded guilty to attempted extortion in the trial of now-convicted felon Tony Rezko. Full release.

In March of 2005, the Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Inspector General issued Report 5-15, which stated, "One of the most important challenges facing the Small Business Administration (SBA) and the entire Federal Government today is that large businesses are receiving small business procurement awards and agencies are receiving credit for these awards." Presidential candidate Senator John McCain has committed to developing a National AIDS Strategy if elected President. The Concord Coalition today urged lawmakers not to use the financial rescue bill as a way to subvert fiscally important pay-as-you-go (paygo) budgeting rules. Concord warned that attaching political sweeteners -- the extension of expiring tax provisions -- to the bailout bill further politicizes the larger debate and deteriorates our nation's fiscal outlook.
