The Hate Hurts America Multifaith Community Coalition (HHA), a group of religious and civic organizations seeking to challenge hate speech in our society, today announced that it has launched a website as a positive response to the anti-Muslim bigotry used in an ongoing multi-million-dollar campaign to influence the presidential election. The U.S. Department of Labor today announced a $15,883,200 grant to the state of Texas to create approximately 600 temporary jobs to assist in Hurricane Ike cleanup and recovery efforts. Full release

Today, Common Cause releases a report that looks at how campaign contributions and lobbying by the mortgage finance industry have played a major role in blocking measures that would have addressed the present financial crisis in a timely manner, and helped American families instead of Wall Street. The report, "Ask Yourself Why ... They Didn't See This Coming," also spotlights the story of the nation's two largest housing lenders, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, their lobbying and campaign activities, and how the government bailout contrasts with how legislators approached the crisis for average people. Speaker Nancy Pelosi joined members of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies on the West Front Terrace of the U.S. Capitol this morning to drive in the first nails for the January 20th presidential inaugural platform.
