September 17, 2008 September 17, 2008CITGO, a Delaware corporation, pleaded guilty today and was sentenced to pay a $13 million fine for the negligent discharge of pollutants into two rivers in Louisiana in violation of the Clean Water Act (CWA), the Justice Department announced. Jeffrey Levi, Executive Director of Trust for America's Health (TFAH), testified before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, FDA and Related Agencies today. TFAH has long advocated increases in the FDA's budget, staff, accountability and transparency. Levi urged the FDA to provide a specific budget request to Congress for its "Food Protection Plan," the modernization strategy it announced in November 2007. The most recent friend update includes Kim Elton, the chairman of Alaska's Legislative Council and an Obama supporter. BarackBook will be updated routinely between now and Election Day with additional, new Obama friends.
