Following the decision of the Icelandic government to start tendering exclusive licences in January 2009 for oil exploration in the Dreki area (in the Atlantic, northeast of Iceland on the Jan Mayen Ridge, between Iceland and Jan Mayen Island), an international conference has been announced in Reykjavik on 4-5
September. The Icelandic National Energy Authority and the Ministry of Industry have organized the conference, which is entitled Iceland Exploration Conference 2008. Full release

The majority of Alaskans support increased access to domestic oil and natural gas resources, a new survey finds."These latest numbers are indicative of increased public sentiment nationwide and closely mirror the findings of recent national polls. Like most Americans nationwide, Alaskans are also feeling the pain of escalating fuel costs and increasingly support developing domestic oil and natural gas resources," said Marilyn Crockett, executive director of the Alaska Oil and Gas Association (AOGA). C-SPAN announces today its "Convention Hub," a unique online addition to the network's coverage of the upcoming 2008 Democratic and Republican conventions. Convention Hub, comprised of two websites, is designed to track coverage of the political blogosphere and social media, while making embeddable C-SPAN convention video available for online use. As John McCain continues his "Job-Killing John" tour in Pennsylvania today, it's clearer than ever how out of touch he is with working Americans. McCain is insulated from the economic struggles of most Americans. As Americans face the consequences of seven months of job losses and spiraling energy costs, John McCain, who owns seven houses, has said that there has "been great progress economically." Perhaps it's not surprising then that John McCain is so out of touch with the struggles facing Americans today that he actually has said that the nation's economic problems are merely "psychological" and he is calling for more of the same failed Bush policies and politics that have already cost thousands of Americans their jobs. On August 21-22, 2008, the Police Foundation will convene a national conference, The Role of Local Police: Striking a Balance Between Immigration Enforcement and Civil Liberties, to examine local law enforcement of federal immigration law. The Democratic National Committee today launched the first web ad of the Exxon-McCain '08 campaign. The ad, called "Exxon John," highlights McCain's promise of more giveaways for his new friends in Big Oil. Released on the same day activists across the country are participating in an Exxon-McCain '08 National Day of Action, "Exxon John" is a parody of the "Big John" video released earlier this year by Republican Senator John Cornyn.
