August 11, 2008 August 11, 2008The American people, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), have provided an initial $250,000 in emergency assistance for the people of Georgia in response to the crisis situation. This funding will be used for emergency relief supplies that can assist up to 10,000 people. In addition, the U.S. Embassy has released pre-positioned disaster packages in the capital of Tbilisi with emergency shelter items and medical supplies which include tents, blankets, bedding, hygiene items, clothing, beds, cots, and medical supplies. The Republican National Committee (RNC) today launched new friend updates to its social networking Web site, http://www.BarackBook.com . The most recent updates include Barack Obama's associations with recently jailed Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick; Penny Pritzker, who serves as the Obama campaign's national finance chair and played a role in subprime lending that led to the fall of Superior Bank, leaving hundreds of clients without part of their savings; and ACORN, a voter-registration organization that has been accused of or implicated in voter-fraud schemes in numerous states.
