The reviews are in, and Day One of the Exxon-McCain '08 campaign was a roaring success. Recent reports show oil trader Harry Sargeant funneling hundreds of thousands of campaign cash to McCain, some of Big Oil's top talent helping run the campaign, and grassroots Exxon-McCain rallies taking place across the country. The word is getting out that Exxon-McCain '08 is the best bet for anyone looking for four more years of the same energy policies that have produced soaring energy costs and record profits for Big Oil. Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean last night announced the appointment of four Co-Chairs for the DNC's South Asian American Leadership Council. Parag Saxena of Rye, NY, Romita Shetty of New York, NY, Dilawar Syed of Palo Alto, CA, and Kashif Zafar of Scarsdale, NY will serve as National Co-Chairs for the Council. All four have been appointed by Governor Dean to lead the Council through the 2008 election cycle. Full release

Today, economists and leaders from the livestock, restaurant, beverage and food industries expressed disappointment at the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) decision to refuse an urgent request by Texas Governor Rick Perry for relief from the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) which is contributing to record food price inflation. John McCain will visit Ohio today amid new revelations about his role in a deal that will cost Ohio more than 8,000 jobs. Yesterday, the Cleveland Plain Dealer revealed that while Chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, McCain, and former DHL lobbyist and current campaign manager Rick Davis, played instrumental roles in helping DHL and its German parent company take over operations in Wilmington, Ohio in 2003, despite concerns about the local impact of the deal. Both companies hired Davis' firm to push the deal through Congress, with DHL-Airborne Express paying Davis and his business partner $185,000 in 2003 and $405,000 from the German company Deutsche Post for other work in 2004 and 2005. Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean and DNC Voting Rights Institute Chair Donna Brazile issued the following statement to commemorate the forty-third anniversary of the signing of the Voting Rights Act by President Lyndon Johnson in 1965: "This week we commemorate the signing of the Voting Rights Act, a bill that has come to be known as one of the most important pieces of civil rights legislation in history. Citing the substantial benefit in protecting the nation's critical frontline-caregiver infrastructure, the Coalition to Protect Senior Care (CPSC) today thanked Senator Susan Collins for helping to lead a successful, bipartisan effort in Congress to stop the Bush Administration from moving forward with a new regulation that would have cut Medicare-funded nursing home care by $4 billion over the next five years, and $770 million for FY 2009. While a tough economy is leaving many people struggling to balance the soaring costs of gas, food, and health care, over 200,000 Illinois residents have failed to take advantage of their economic stimulus rebate -- leaving an estimated $63 million unclaimed.
