July 17, 2008 July 17, 2008Today, more McCain surrogates and a web video attacking Barack Obama, which could have been produced on "Fantasy Island," will be trotted out in an effort to distract attention from John McCain's real record on Iraq -- a record of being inconsistent and being wrong, just like President Bush. What you won't hear today: that Senator McCain was part of the propaganda machine that misled us into war, that he predicted that we'd be greeted as liberators, that he parroted the Bush talking points from the start, that he praised President Bush and Donald Rumsfeld's conduct of the war and that he echoed the Bush Administration's rosy rhetoric even as the reality indicated otherwise. Sens. John Kerry and Olympia Snowe introduced the "Emergency Energy Response Act of 2008" today to directly address soaring energy costs that are hurting consumers and breaking state budgets. The bill would create a grant program to help states develop and implement response plans to address the rising costs of heating oils, natural gas, and diesel, as well as other energy costs. An estimated 25,000 people are alive today because of the 21 Minimum Legal Drinking Age (MLDA). Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) applauds the work of Senators Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) and Elizabeth Dole (R-NC) as well as and the late Representative James J. Howard (D-NJ) who helped pass this life-saving law, which was signed into law 24 years ago today.
