Following the recent landmark Second Amendment ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court, the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearms industry, sent presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Senator Barrack Obama (D-IL) a letter, dated July 4, asking whether he believes laws in the City of Chicago - his hometown - that ban law-abiding citizens from having firearms, including handguns in their home, violate the Second Amendment. "But real change will not come from the two major parties, with their well-established commitment to the status quo. As the United States Senate returns from the Independence Day recess to debate a major overhaul of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois today called on Senator Barack Obama to vote no and reject this unconstitutional measure. Last month, the House of Representatives passed the FISA Amendments Act of 2008 (H.R. 6304), a bill that not only allows for the wide, sweeping and unwarranted collection of Americans' communications, but also grants immunity to telecommunications companies for their collaboration in domestic spying. The Senate is expected to vote on the bill as early as tomorrow, July 8.

Breaking the mold of traditional political Conventions, the Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) today announced that Senator Barack Obama will accept the Democratic nomination for President of the United States at Denver's INVESCO Field at Mile High. INVESCO Field can accommodate more than 75,000 people and will be the site of the 2008 Democratic Convention's final day of programming on Thursday, August 28, 2008. Full release

Obama Pledged To Not Raise Taxes On The Middle Class. ABC's George Stephanopoulos: "Would you take the same pledge [that there will be no middle class tax increases of any kind]?" Obama: "Well, I not only have pledged not to raise their taxes, I've been the first candidate in this race to specifically say I would cut their taxes." With John McCain attempting to re-launch his campaign with a "Jobs First" tour that the Wall Street Journal reports won't offer any new economic policies or solutions, the Democratic National Committee today launched a new website and web video aimed at highlighting McCain's promise to continue President Bush's failed and flawed economic policies. While McCain is working to "repackage" the Bush policies he has been offering for months, 68 percent of voters have already decided that his policies are too similar to President Bush's.
