Chao today told attendees at "DOL Speaks: The 2008 Employee Benefits Conference" in Washington that the Bush Administration has accomplished its goals to strengthen the ability of employers to deliver retirement and health benefit security, and keep its commitment to workers and their families. John McCain says he wants to have the most transparent campaign in history and stop the revolving door of lobbyists in Washington. Yet instead of cleaning up the influence of lobbyists in his campaign, he continues to cover up just how significant of a role they have played and continue to play in his political career. Senator McCain currently has 115 lobbyists helping his campaign by either working or raising money for him. He has 70 registered lobbyists serving as bundlers for his campaign, and lobbyists have given him $610,000 in donations directly. Full release

As John McCain's campaign continues its false and misleading attempts to spin away a widening lobbying scandal, USA Today revealed that yet another member of McCain's inner circle was lobbying on the campaign trail. According to the report, as recently as November 2007, McCain's top foreign policy advisor, Randy Scheunemann, was lobbying McCain's Senate office on behalf of his foreign clients in the same week he was representing the Senator on the campaign trail. Michael J. Garcia, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced that the United States, in partnership with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), has reached a settlement which requires payment of $972,000 in damages to 23 female correction officers, as well as assorted non-monetary relief, in coordinated civil rights lawsuits alleging pregnancy discrimination by the New York State Department of Correctional Services (DOCS).
