Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean announced today that the DNC has signed a joint fundraising agreement with the Clinton and Obama campaigns. As part of the agreement, a new entity, "Democratic White House Victory Fund," has been formed. The fund will allow both candidates to raise money for the Party, forming one joint fundraising committee account that will accept money for the nominee's primary and general election and for the DNC. Today, retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich presented testimony to a special hearing of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging, convened by Chairman Senator Herbert Kohl (D-WI) specifically to hear updates on the fight against Alzheimer's disease. The McCain campaign's decision to withhold Cindy McCain's tax returns is drawing criticism from across the political spectrum. This morning, editorials in both the Washington Post and Washington Times echoed calls for the McCain campaign to release Cindy McCain's tax returns. This follows a column in yesterday's New York Observer that blasts McCain for his hypocrisy on disclosure, noting that Mrs. McCain's corporate jet "has been flying him and his entourage of lobbyists around the country at bargain rates." Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement congratulating Representative-Elect Travis Childers on his victory in the special election yesterday for Mississippi's 1st Congressional District. This is the third straight special election victory for Democrats this year in a heavily Republican district following wins in former GOP House Speaker Dennis Hastert's district and a Louisiana district held by Republicans for the last three decades. Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa on Wednesday urged Congress to resist White House pressure to pass a trade deal with Colombia. During a Capitol Hill news conference, seven Colombian union leaders said they oppose the deal because it rewards the government of Alvaro Uribe, which shows little respect for union rights.
