Republicans Demonstrate Misplaced Priorities with Flag Burning Amendment, Says Democratic National Committee
June 28, 2006"How can Republicans, who are invoking the issue of patriotism at every turn, claim they are being patriots when they are unwilling to protect our right to vote, our most basic fundamental right as Americans? Today's vote is another example of the Republican-controlled Congress's misplaced priorities. After failing to live up to their promise to reauthorize the Voting Rights Act, Congressional Republicans then spent two days debating a flag-burning measure.
