State AGs, Experts to Warn House Bill Endangers Food Supply; Bill Expected to Pass This Week Despite Warnings from Officials
March 6, 2006"A bill that would nullify many food safety laws and prevent states from issuing warnings about groceries is poised for House passage this week despite concern that it could endanger human health.
Thirty-nine state attorneys general, environmental groups, state officials, and consumer advocates will call upon House leaders to reject the proposal, which effectively eliminates the ability of states to govern food safety.
